Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions. Can't find what you need? Most things you can simply ask the assistant directly.

Accounts & family

Do both parents need an account?+

Yes. Each parent creates their own account and joins the shared family via an invite. That gives each person their own preferences, notification settings, and calendar colour while sharing the same family data. See Invite & manage members.

Can children use the app?+

Yes. Children can be added with the “child” role for read access to the family calendar and their own reminders. Younger children can be added as dependents with no login at all, and given their own login later without losing any of their records.

Can I belong to more than one family?+

No. Each account belongs to exactly one family at a time. To move, you leave your current family first.

What happens if the only adult leaves?+

The family is dissolved. Children can't run a family on their own, so there's no state where the family survives without an adult.

The AI assistant

Can I use KinLife without the AI chat?+

Yes. The calendar, notes, reminders, and other pages all work on their own. The assistant makes them faster, but it's not required for day-to-day use.

Do I have to type, or can I talk to it?+

Both. There's a microphone button in the chat composer that dictates using your browser's speech recognition, and on WhatsApp you can send voice notes.

Does it remember things between conversations?+

Yes. It keeps a persistent memory at the family and personal level, so it already knows your kids' schools, your routines, and your preferences. You can view and edit this in Settings → Memory.

Can it actually book flights and hotels?+

It searches and prices flights and hotels live (including a “cheapest dates this month” search) and returns ranked results with booking links. It hands you to the official booking flow to pay, rather than booking on your behalf.

What grocery stores are supported?+

Woolworths, Coles, and Aldi, returned with prices, pack sizes, and links so you can compare. Direct add-to-cart is on the roadmap.

Calendar & sync

Do I need Google Calendar?+

No. You can connect Google Calendar or Apple Calendar (iCloud), and KinLife syncs two-way with whichever you choose. The first adult to connect locks the family to that provider.

Can the whole family see each other's events?+

Yes, that's the point. Everyone's events appear in one colour-coded view. Your personal calendar is only shared with other adults with your explicit consent, and you can change or revoke that at any time.

If I edit an event in Google/Apple Calendar, does KinLife update?+

Yes. Sync is two-way: edit in either place and the change flows back on the next refresh. See the Calendar guide.

Can it find a time that works for several of us?+

Yes. Ask it to find a free slot and it scans every tagged member's calendar at once, respecting everyone's timezones, before suggesting times.

Notes & lists

How does attaching a note to an event work?+

The note link shows in the event's detail dialog and is written into the calendar event's description, so anyone the event is shared with can open it.

What if two people edit the same note at once?+

KinLife detects the clash and warns you with the current content rather than silently overwriting someone's changes.

I deleted a note by mistake, is it gone?+

No. Deleted notes go to Trash and can be restored with one click. They're only removed permanently when you purge them.

Channels & integrations

What messaging apps does KinLife support?+

WhatsApp for assistant chat and reminders, plus email via your family address. See Email & WhatsApp.

What's the family email address for?+

Forward newsletters, coach emails, and notices to it and the assistant reads them, extracts events, and can draft replies. Mail from non-family senders is logged but never auto-replied to.

Why isn't my WhatsApp getting replies?+

Only numbers registered and activated in Settings → WhatsApp receive AI responses. Add your number there in international format first.

Privacy & data

Is my data private?+

Yes. All family data is strictly scoped to your family at the database level, and KinLife staff can't access your events, notes, or documents. See Privacy & security.

Does the AI train on my documents?+

No. Your documents are processed to answer you, not used to train the model or retained for that purpose.

Do external guests see my family's data?+

Never. During event planning, guests talk to a scope-limited assistant that can only collect availability slots.

Billing

Does it cost anything to start?+

No. Every new family lands on the full Family plan via the launch promo, with no credit card required.

Where do I see my plan?+

In Settings → Subscription, which shows your plan, price, and any promo applied.

Troubleshooting

My uploaded document didn't extract events.+

Check the Memory Jobs view, a failed ingest is shown there with a one-click retry. Clearer photos extract more reliably than blurry ones.

The calendar grid looks empty for a moment.+

On Google, events are pulled from the API when the page loads, so the grid shows a brief spinner until they land. If it stays empty, confirm your calendar is connected in Settings → Calendar.

Something still isn't working.+

Ask the assistant, it can often explain or fix the issue. For account problems you can't resolve in-app, email us at help@kinlife.ai.
